About this opportunity
A fellowship, valued at up to $30,000, will be awarded to a full-time student enrolled in the doctoral program in the School of Optometry & Vision Science in the Faculty of Science at the University of Waterloo. The scholarship will be paid in equal instalments over the standard program length (12 terms), as long as the student remains registered full-time. This fund is made possible through the generosity of Severin Hacker to elevate exceptional research and improve visual outcomes for patients with amblyopia. Selection is based on academic excellence (minimum 80% cumulative average) and demonstrated interest in amblyopia research. Consideration is given to research projects and activities that focus on human visual cortex development and plasticity, particularly on promoting plasticity to improve outcomes. Preference will be given to students who do not concurrently hold a major scholarship exceeding $3,000 per term at the time of admission. Future instalments are contingent upon maintaining good academic standing and full-time enrollment. Students are identified and selected by the School of Optometry & Vision Science Graduate Office based on their application for admission.
