The Sheldon M Chumir Memorial Essay Prize in Human Rights or Ethics in Government is awarded annually to a student enrolled in the JD or LLM degree program in the Faculty of Law at the University of Alberta. The prize recognizes the most outstanding essay written in the areas of human rights or ethics in government. The recipient will be the student who receives the highest mark on their essay in these subject areas. This prize honors the memory of Sheldon M Chumir (1940-1992), a distinguished graduate of the University of Alberta Faculty of Law, Rhodes Scholar, Alberta MLA (1986-1992), and humanitarian. The prize is endowed through the Sheldon M Chumir Foundation for Ethics in Leadership and by the friends of Sheldon Chumir.
