About this opportunity
The Sir Henry Thomas Scholarship provides funding for outstanding doctoral candidates conducting research in the fields of Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan or Latin American Studies. The scholarship covers Home tuition fees and provides a stipend of £15,000 for three years, subject to satisfactory progress. International students can apply, and if successful, the Home fee will be a contribution to the Overseas fee. The successful candidate would commence study in September 2026.
The scholarship is offered by the University of Birmingham and is specifically for doctoral research students whose principal supervisor is a staff member in the Spanish, Catalan and Portuguese areas of the Department. Special consideration is given to applications relating to a wide range of research areas including Film and Media Studies, Cultural and Literary Studies, World Literature, Cultural History, Visual and Material Cultures, Linguistics, and many other fields within Hispanic Studies.
Applications are open to both new doctoral applicants and current internal year 1 doctoral students. Candidates should have a first class or upper second-class degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject, and should have completed or be completing a Masters degree in a relevant subject.
