About this opportunity
The Sir James Lougheed Award of Distinction honours the Calgary lawyer, parliamentarian, senator and cabinet minister who served in several federal parliaments in the late 1800s and early 1900s. This award recognizes academic excellence and provides Alberta students in graduate programs with the opportunity for study outside of Alberta at institutions anywhere in the world. Each year up to fifteen students may be eligible for these awards. The award is funded through the Alberta Heritage Scholarship Fund and supports Canadian citizens or permanent residents who are Alberta residents pursuing full-time master's or doctoral level programs focused on academic research at institutions located outside of Alberta. The program offers Master's level awards of $15,000 (7 awards) and Doctoral level awards of $20,000 (8 awards), with doctoral students who have not completed one year of graduate studies eligible for $15,000. An individual may receive a lifetime maximum of two awards.
