About this opportunity
The Save Our Seas Foundation Conservation Fellowship is a two-year financial support program introduced in 2023 to help retain and develop expertise in shark and ray conservation. This initiative recognizes the challenges faced by dedicated individuals committed to marine conservation, especially those from regions with fewer resources and opportunities. The fellowship provides USD 8,000 per year over two years to cover living costs of grantees working on shark and ray conservation projects. It is specifically designed for previous SOSF grantees from developing countries in Central/South America, Africa, and Asia who are actively working on shark or ray conservation in their regions.
The fellowship aims to transform knowledge into effective, meaningful change by supporting the people making that change happen in marine conservation. Unlike project grants, these funds are specifically intended to cover the living costs of the grantee rather than project expenses. This approach helps ensure that committed conservation professionals can sustain themselves while continuing their important work in shark and ray conservation.
Eligible applicants must be previous SOSF small or keystone grantees living and working in developing countries as defined by the OECD. They must have received their SOSF grant less than five years before applying and be actively engaged in shark or ray conservation work in their region. The fellowship seeks individuals who can demonstrate conservation experience and capability, effectiveness and leadership, and articulate how this support will help advance shark and ray conservation efforts.
