About this opportunity
The Sounds of the Future Residency at Sound Art Lab is realized in collaboration with Sound Art Lab, Struer Tracks, SPOR Festival and the Danish Composers' Society to support professional artists and projects focusing on development and exploration within sound art. The residency programme provides artists with a 3-week residency period at Sound Art Lab in Struer, Denmark, offering dedicated atelier space, access to professional sound studios for recording and editing stereo, surround and multi-channel works, electronic and wood workshops, and a general depot of audio gear including microphones, recorders, and speakers. Artists will also have access to an old anechoic chamber and additional workshops including 3D printers through partners at Sound Hub Denmark.
Residing artists receive free accommodation at Sound Art Lab's 210 M2 flat in central Struer, with their own room and shared kitchen, living space and bathroom with other artists and guests. The program includes integration into the artistic environment at Sound Art Lab, with sparring opportunities, technical assistance, and communication of the artist's project through SAL's channels. Artists are required to give presentations of their artistic practice and development in an artist talk at Sound Art Lab or subsequently in their own environment.
The residency provides an honorarium of 10,000 DKK per week (up to 3 weeks total) that can be used for travel and living expenses, purchase of special technical equipment, software, consultancy services, or other needs at the artist's disposal. Two residencies are awarded at each deadline, with application deadlines on May 1st and November 1st. Emphasis is placed on the applicant's portfolio, motivation and project idea, and their ability to benefit from a residency at Sound Art Lab with space and time for development and exploration within their own artistic practice.
