University of St Andrews Original Source

About This Opportunity

St Leonard's Postgraduate College at the University of St Andrews offers a fully funded scholarship for doctoral (PhD) applicants from the UK who meet specific widening access criteria. The scholarship is designed to support students who have demonstrated financial need or participated in widening participation schemes, or who have care experience. Eligible applicants include those who attended St Andrews for undergraduate or postgraduate taught degrees and received financial need scholarships, participated in widening participation schemes at St Andrews or other universities (such as Sutton Trust), or previously spent time in care (residential, foster, or kinship care). The award comprises a full tuition fee waiver and an annual stipend set by the University. For 2025-2026, the stipend is £19,775 per annum, with annual uplifts published each academic year. The scholarship is available for full-time or part-time study and supports research across all schools and departments at the University of St Andrews. Applications are assessed based on both financial need and academic merit, and applicants must submit evidence of household income, academic transcripts, a research proposal, and CV.
