About this opportunity
The Stan and Helen Buell Music Award is granted each year to a returning student in UPEI's Music program who attended their full secondary education at a Prince Edward Island High School, has a focus on instrumental training, and is in financial need. This award was established by Stanley Irwin Buell and Helen Elizabeth (Kent) Buell, who retired to Stratford, Prince Edward Island after many years of living and travelling around the world. Stan is originally from Parkdale, PEI and attended secondary school at Prince of Wales College and post-secondary school at Saint Dunstan's University prior to pursuing a career in engineering. Helen is from Stewiacke, Nova Scotia, and was a successful teacher in Halifax when she and Stan met. Stan and Helen enjoy a common love of all things artistic and cultural, with Helen having a particular passion for music. As a component of their intention to give back to Prince Edward Island, they have established awards at Holland College, and planned gifts for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the PEI Community Foundation. They are furthering their immense generosity to the Island through the establishment of this award for UPEI students.
