Steinberg Prize

The Steinberg Prize essay competition was established by Muriel and Charles Steinberg in the late 1970s, with current funding provided by their daughter, Dr. Carol Steinberg Gould. This prize is awarded for the best original works on a philosophical theme submitted by undergraduate philosophy majors at the University at Buffalo. Eligible submissions include essays, poems, stories, and artwork that address philosophical topics. The typical submission is a polished version of a longer paper (more than 6 pages) that has been submitted for a philosophy class and has already received positive feedback from faculty. Essays can address mainstream philosophical problems or more advanced and specialized topics. The competition encourages submissions in all formats and across all philosophical traditions, making it a versatile opportunity for undergraduate philosophy students to showcase their creative and analytical work.
