About this opportunity
The Steven L. Shaw Memorial International Student Emergency Fund provides financial support to international students at the University at Buffalo during times of crisis and emergency. The Office of International Education and the broader UB community established this fund to ensure that international students, regardless of where they're from, have access to financial assistance when facing unforeseen circumstances. The fund covers essential expenses including utilities, off-campus rent, transportation, food, medical care, and child care.
Eligible students must be degree-seeking UB students in good academic standing who hold and maintain a valid F-1 or J-1 student visa. Applicants must demonstrate financial need resulting from unforeseen circumstances and must have already considered all other resources, including emergency loans, which are either insufficient, unavailable, or not available in a timely manner.
Each request is reviewed individually with consideration given to multiple factors including the nature and urgency of the emergency, the totality of the student's hardships, availability of other resources, immediate impacts on living and academic circumstances, and information provided by advocates or advisors. The award amount varies depending on individual circumstances and need.
