STFC PhD Studentships in Theoretical Particle Physics, Experimental Particle Physics or Astronomy

University of Sussex Original Source

About This Opportunity

The STFC (Science and Technology Facilities Council) PhD Studentships at the University of Sussex offer fully funded doctoral research opportunities in three specialized physics areas: Theoretical Particle Physics, Experimental Particle Physics, or Astronomy. The studentships are designed for talented researchers pursuing advanced study in these fields. This prestigious award provides comprehensive financial support including fully-paid tuition fees at the home fee status for three and a half years, along with a tax-free bursary for living costs. The program expects to offer one or more studentships for September 2026 admission in each of the three research areas. Successful applicants will join world-class research groups at Sussex, with opportunities to work on cutting-edge projects in particle physics theory, experimental particle physics research, or astronomical studies. Additional financial support is provided to cover both short-term and long-term travel, enabling students to attend conferences and collaborate with international research institutions. The program is open to both UK and international students who hold at least a UK upper second class degree (or equivalent) in Physics or a closely-related area, or a lower second class degree followed by a relevant Master's degree. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis with early rounds in January for Astronomy and February for Theoretical Particle Physics.
