Fredrikstad kommunes utdanningslegat provides scholarships to support higher education for young residents of Fredrikstad and continuing education for municipal employees. The program distributes 9/10 of the previous year's interest income from the education endowment fund. The scholarship is designed to support first-year students aged 18-23 who are residents of Fredrikstad municipality pursuing higher education beyond secondary school level, as well as permanent employees of Fredrikstad municipality undertaking further education or continuing education. For residents, the scholarship is awarded to first-year students pursuing a minimum three-year degree program (180 study credits) and is only awarded once to the same person. For municipal employees, the scholarship supports education with a minimum of one full-year study program (60 study credits) that is relevant to their job and recommended by their supervisor. Applications must include confirmation of admission and enrollment from the educational institution, along with information about the study credits. The scholarship is paid out at the end of the calendar year, and the board may require full or partial repayment in special cases if the recipient does not complete their studies.
