Strategic Legal Fund

The Strategic Legal Fund (SLF) is a grant program managed by the Immigration Law Practitioners' Association (ILPA) that provides funding for strategic legal work supporting vulnerable young migrants. The fund is designed to support legal practitioners and organizations undertaking work that fits specific eligibility criteria related to immigration law and the rights of young migrants. The application process involves an initial outreach to ILPA to outline proposals, followed by a formal application using their Word application form. Applications are reviewed by ILPA's in-house team for completeness and eligibility, then assessed by an Expert Panel of at least three members who make funding recommendations. The fund operates on a rolling basis with approximately six closing dates per year, roughly every two months. Applicants typically receive a decision within six weeks of the closing date. The Strategic Legal Fund is supported by Trust for London, Esmee Fairbairn Foundation, Unbound Philanthropy, and Paul Hamlyn Foundation. Prospective applicants are required to review previous SLF grants to ensure their proposal does not duplicate existing work. The fund has specific eligibility criteria outlined in their funding guidelines, and only accepts applications submitted on their official Word application form.
