About this opportunity
The Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet) invites Swedish higher education institutions to apply for funding within eight strategic research areas. The purpose is to profile Swedish research to continue competing internationally. The research funded must be of the highest international quality. The strategic investment aims to enable long-term research with conditions to reach or maintain the highest international quality through concentration and profiling of Swedish research. The government has allocated 200 million SEK for 2027 and 400 million SEK for 2028 to be distributed to institutions' appropriations for research and education at the doctoral level. The eight strategic research areas are: Health, life science and artificial intelligence; Quantum technologies; Polar research; Climate-related research; Crisis preparedness and total defense; Practice-oriented professional research on crime; Excellence in schools; and Research on advanced materials. One to three applications per strategic research area are expected to be recommended for funding.
