Student Carers Bursary

The Student Carers Bursary is offered by Cardiff Metropolitan University to support students who provide unpaid care for family or friends. This financial assistance program recognizes the challenges faced by student carers and provides both monetary support and dedicated mentorship. The bursary offers up to £1,000 for full-time students and up to £500 for part-time students during their first year of study. Recipients also benefit from a dedicated staff mentor who provides guidance on all aspects of university life and acts as a liaison between the student and the university. The program aims to ensure student carers can access all available support services while balancing their academic responsibilities with their caring duties. Students must meet the Carers Trust definition of a carer, which includes anyone who provides unpaid support to someone unable to cope independently due to illness, disability, mental health problems, or addiction.
