About this opportunity
The Summer Math Scholarship was established in 2016 by the Summer Math Foundation to support undergraduate mathematics students pursuing research during the summer. Recipients must register for MTH 499 Independent Study during Spring 2026 and then conduct a research project over the summer under the guidance of a Math Department faculty member. The scholarship provides funding for students to engage in independent mathematical research, with most recipients writing a senior honors thesis about their project afterwards, though this is not a requirement. Preference is given to sophomores and juniors who have demonstrated strong academic performance with a GPA of 3.2 or higher. This opportunity allows students to gain valuable research experience in mathematics while working closely with faculty mentors.
