About this opportunity
This summer research scholarship project involves automation of a thermocouple homogeneity scanner, a precision measurement device used for non-invasive inspection of thermoelement health. The scanner is a custom-built multi-component device, utilizing motor control, temperature control, and data logging and analysis. The main task of the project will be to create a new instrument control and data acquisition program in Python to replace the current LabView system. Time permitting, the Python program will be modified to automate thermocouple calibration furnace measurements. Students will be supervised by both Jimmi Rosa from the School of Engineering and Computer Science and Ana Rakonjac from the Measurement Standards Laboratory of New Zealand (MSLNZ). The project will take place mainly at the Measurement Standards Laboratory premises, a business of Callaghan Institute. This scholarship is part of Victoria University of Wellington's Summer Research Scholarship Programme for 2025/2026.
