About this opportunity
The Susan Wakil Scholarship - Undergraduate Greater Sydney is a prestigious undergraduate scholarship established in 2016 by the Susan and Isaac Wakil Foundation. This scholarship provides up to $20,000 in financial support to encourage and support first-year students from the Greater Sydney region to undertake nursing education at The University of Sydney Susan Wakil School of Nursing and Midwifery. The scholarship aims to make nursing education more accessible to students from the Greater Sydney area and provides comprehensive support throughout their undergraduate studies.
Recipients receive up to $6,000 per annum toward tuition fees for 6 semesters, with any remaining funds dispersed directly to the student as cash payments. Additionally, scholars receive a one-off payment of $500 in their first semester. The scholarship supports students enrolled full-time in the Bachelor of Nursing (Advanced Studies) degree program.
Beyond financial support, the scholarship requires active participation in the Susan Wakil Scholars Academy and attendance at annual School scholarship events. Recipients must maintain a minimum Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 50 and remain enrolled in at least 24 credit points each semester. The program also includes mentorship components, with scholars meeting regularly with the Director Academic Education or designated academic staff to discuss their academic progression.
Selection is based on academic merit and a personal statement, with shortlisted applicants potentially required to attend an interview. This scholarship represents a significant investment in developing the next generation of nursing professionals in the Greater Sydney region.
