About this opportunity
The Susan Wakil Scholarship - Undergraduate Rural and Regional was established in 2016 to encourage and support students from rural or regional Australia to undertake nursing education at The University of Sydney Susan Wakil School of Nursing and Midwifery. This scholarship has been generously donated by the Susan and Isaac Wakil Foundation to help individuals from areas outside Greater Sydney pursue a Bachelor of Nursing (Advanced Studies) degree.
The scholarship provides comprehensive financial support valued at up to $87,500 over six semesters. This includes a one-off payment of $500 in the first semester, up to $6,000 per annum towards tuition fees for six semesters, and $23,000 per annum towards living expenses for six semesters. The scholarship covers tuition fees and any remaining funds are dispersed directly to the student as cash payments, paid after the relevant census date of each semester.
Recipients must be Australian citizens or permanent residents from areas of Australia outside Greater Sydney, enrolled in a minimum of 24 credit points while commencing first year of a Bachelor of Nursing (Advanced Studies). The scholarship is awarded based on academic merit and a personal statement, with shortlisted applicants potentially required to attend an interview. Recipients are required to maintain a minimum Semester Average Mark of 50 each semester and actively participate in the Susan Wakil Scholars Academy.
Scholarship recipients must attend annual School scholarship and prize events, contribute to communications and events to update the Foundation on their progress, and meet with academic advisors each semester to discuss their progression. The scholarship emphasizes supporting rural and regional students in achieving excellence in nursing education at one of Australia's leading universities.
