About This Opportunity

The Swedish Academy's Bernadotte Scholarships were established in connection with His Majesty the King's 70th birthday in 2016 as part of the Bernadotte Program, which encompasses several scholarships. Two of these are awarded by the Swedish Academy. The program is supported by five royal academies: the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, the Royal Swedish Academy of Music, the Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities, the Royal Gustav Adolfs Academy for Swedish Folk Culture, and the Swedish Academy. The scholarships provide support for postdoctoral language/literature researchers who have defended their thesis within the last five years, or for authors relatively early in their careers with at least two published literary works in Swedish. Each scholarship amounts to 125,000 Swedish kronor per person as support for up to one year. After the stipend period, each project is presented in a format agreed upon between the Academy and the scholarship recipients. The program allows for collaboration between the academies, and scholarship recipients form a joint network for exchanges during the scholarship year. The planned topic is expected to relate to the Swedish language and preferably connect to several of the academies' areas of interest, such as actualizing multiple forms of knowledge and art.
