About This Opportunity
The Sydney Medical School Indigenous Postgraduate Coursework Tuition Fee Scholarship was established in 2017 by Sydney Medical School Indigenous Health Strategy Working Party to provide assistance to Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students studying postgraduate coursework degrees at Sydney Medical School. The scholarship is intended to cover tuition fees for students undertaking postgraduate coursework at Sydney Medical School. The scholarship is aimed at equipping Indigenous doctors with the qualifications and skills to succeed in their chosen specialist career. To this end, the scholarship may also provide academic support and professional mentoring in the specialty of choice, if desired, brokered by the Director of Postgraduate Coursework Programs. Recipients must be currently employed in clinical practice (or on approved leave) and have an unconditional offer of admission or be currently undertaking coursework studies in a graduate certificate, graduate diploma, master's or advanced master's level course at Sydney Medical School (except the Doctor of Medicine program). The scholarship covers tuition fees and Student Services and Amenities Fees for the full duration of the relevant degree, with a maximum of 60 credit points of coursework units of study and a maximum of 12 credit points per semester. The scholarship will be awarded based on academic merit, a personal statement, evidence of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and a referee report provided from the current clinical workplace. Recipients must maintain a minimum Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 50 each semester to continue receiving the scholarship.
