About This Opportunity

The Alan Lyall Walker Scholarship for Research in Plasma Physics is a postgraduate research scholarship designed to provide financial assistance to Masters by Research or PhD students undertaking research in plasma physics. This scholarship is funded by the Alan Lyall Walker Bequest and is available to students within the School of Physics, Faculty of Science, or any schools within the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sydney. The scholarship supports research projects involving experimental, observational, theoretical, and simulational analyses of plasmas in various contexts, including laboratory, applied, commercial/industrial, space, and astrophysical plasmas. The scholarship provides a stipend allowance equivalent to the minimum Research Training Program (RTP) Stipend rate, indexed annually on January 1st. Recipients receive up to 1.75 years of funding for Master's by research or up to 3.5 years for PhD students (3 years primary with potential 6-month extension). Selection is based on academic merit, research proposal, curriculum vitae, previous research experience, and a personal statement outlining interest and commitment to the selected project. Preference is given to commencing students and research addressing the physics of plasmas rather than applications of techniques involving plasmas.
