About This Opportunity
The Bill and Melia Hutchinson Scholarship is designed to address educational disadvantage experienced by people living in areas affected by socio-economic disadvantage. The scholarship supports domestic undergraduate students enrolled in engineering or medicine and health degrees at the University of Sydney who come from areas in the bottom 25 percent of the Australian Bureau of Statistics Socio-Economic Index for Areas (SEIFA) Index of Education and Occupation (IEO). The scholarship provides $8,500 per year for the full-time duration of the recipient's undergraduate degree, up to a maximum of 5 years. Recipients must have applied for admission through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) and resided in a qualifying low socio-economic area at the time of application. In addition to the annual stipend, recipients receive comprehensive support including participation in the Preparation for Sydney Uni program, University of Sydney Union Rewards Membership, access to the Vice Chancellor's Global Mobility Award (up to $5,000), eligibility for additional accommodation scholarships, and access to alumni and industry mentoring in their final year. The scholarship aims to facilitate and support participation in University of Sydney engineering or medicine and health courses for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. All MySydney Scholarship recipients who meet the eligibility criteria are automatically considered, with no additional application required. Recipients are selected based on their Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR), with priority given to engineering students from remote and regional locations, followed by medicine and health students from similar areas.
