The Charles Donovan Prize In Dermatology

The Charles Donovan Prize In Dermatology is awarded annually to fourth-year medical students at University College Cork who demonstrate exceptional knowledge in dermatology. Named after Charles Donovan, a former UCC student who achieved international recognition for describing two diseases with cutaneous manifestations (kala-azar and granuloma inguinale), this prize honors academic excellence in dermatology. Students are eligible based on their performance in a required MCQ examination as part of module CP4007, with the top four scorers invited to participate in an oral examination to determine the prize winner. The prize is donated by the Department of Medicine (Dermatology) at South Infirmary/Victoria University Hospital and is funded through endowments invested by the university, with annual amounts subject to market fluctuations.
