About this opportunity
The Donal McCarthy Postgraduate Research Scholarship in Statistics is funded by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) Ireland to promote university research in the area of official statistics. The scholarship was established to honor Dr. Donal McCarthy, who was President of UCC from 1967 to 1978 and a former Director of the Central Statistics Office. The scholarship supports full-time postgraduate students pursuing research leading to an MSc or PhD degree in Statistics or related quantitative disciplines with an interest in methodology for applications to Official Statistics. Relevant research topics include survey sampling, multivariate methods, time series, and small area estimation. The holder of the award will carry out research under the general direction of the Head of the Department of Statistics and will have opportunities to work on data from ongoing projects of current interest to the CSO. The scholarship is tenable for one academic year but may be extended for a maximum of three years subject to satisfactory progress.
