About this opportunity
The Edward Gurr Prizes are annual awards established in honor of Dr. Edward Gurr, PhD, FRIC, FLS, who was an honorary Research Associate in the Department of Anatomy at University College Cork and head of Michrome Laboratories in London. Dr. Gurr donated €1,300 to establish annual prizes in Histology for medical and dental students to mark his association with the Medical School. Two prizes are offered annually, one for medical students and one for dental students, each with a current value of approximately €800. The prizes recognize excellence in histology studies and are awarded based on examination results and the quality of histology work completed during the academic year. The medical student prize is awarded based on performance in the Histology component of the First University Anatomy Prizes Examination, while the dental student prize is based on oral histology performance in the second year Anatomy examination. Eligible students must be among the top performers in their respective programs and demonstrate sufficiently high standards in their histology work as assessed by the Professor of Anatomy.
