About this opportunity
The George and Matilda Harris Scholarship provides a stipend allowance for postgraduate research students in the University of Sydney Law School. Established by a gift from Mrs Matilda Harris in memory of her late husband George Harris, this scholarship was created for the encouragement of the study of law. The scholarship can be awarded as either a primary or supplementary scholarship providing stipend allowance or a one-off payment.
This scholarship aims to attract top candidates who have well-developed research projects and who would be competitive at top international institutes of higher learning to conduct their research degree at Sydney Law School. Candidates must be enrolled or have an unconditional offer for a PhD, Master of Criminology (Research), or Master of Laws (Research) within the Law School. Recipients must be willing to conduct research in the disciplines of law and hold an honours degree with first class honours in law or equivalent qualifications.
The scholarship provides up to $55,000 per annum for durations ranging from 1.75 years for Master's students to 3.5 years for PhD students. When offered as a one-off payment, values range from $2,000 to $55,000. Recipients are also entitled to recreation leave and sick leave provisions, and may conduct up to 12 months of research overseas with appropriate approval.
