The Howe Scholarship

The Howe Scholarship is an annual scholarship award established in December 2021 to support African-American students from the Wilmington, NC metroplex area. The scholarship provides financial assistance to students pursuing post-secondary degrees or certifications in the building arts and sciences, including associates, baccalaureate, graduate, or professional degrees in architectural or other relevant fields. The scholarship is administered by St. Stephen AME Church of Wilmington, NC, which oversees the annual selection of qualified recipients. The scholarship honors the legacy of the Howe family, whose members were prominent builders and community members in Wilmington's African-American community during the 19th and 20th centuries. Church or religious affiliation is not a requirement for eligibility.
