About this opportunity
The James Fisher Prize for First Books on the Himalayan Region honors the scholarly contributions of Dr. James Fisher to scholarship on the region. The prize recognizes an outstanding first book on the Himalayan region by an author in any discipline. Single or co-authored academic books written in English are accepted, as are those that include English translations in the case of bi- or multi-lingual publications. Books must be an author's first in order to be considered, and must have been published within the three years preceding the competition deadline. A committee of ANHS members drawn from multiple disciplines and areas of expertise reviews each work to determine the awardee. Evaluation criteria include quality of research, contribution to Himalayan Studies, innovation, clarity of writing, and social inclusion. The award recipient receives a $500 prize from ANHS and the awarded book is featured on the ANHS website.
