About this opportunity
The Jean Walker Trust Fellowship supports postgraduate research students in the Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney conducting research on the cause, prevention and treatment of animal diseases in Australia. The scholarship was established in 1983 through a bequest from Jean Wilgress Walker and is specifically designed for students in veterinary science and animal production.
This fellowship may be awarded as either a primary scholarship providing an annual stipend equivalent to the University of Sydney RTP rate, or as a supplementary scholarship providing $10,000 per annum for current scholarship holders. Primary scholarships are available for up to 1.75 years for Masters by Research students and up to 3.5 years for PhD recipients, with supplementary scholarships offered for the same durations.
The scholarship follows the Research Training Program (RTP) application process and requires applicants to have an unconditional offer of admission or be enrolled in full-time studies in a Masters by Research or PhD within areas of Veterinary Science and Animal Production. Recipients must also have applied and been assessed for the RTP Stipend Scholarship. Selection is based on academic merit and the quality of the research proposal in the field of animal disease research in Australia.
The fellowship provides standard benefits including recreation leave and sick leave for primary scholarship holders, and allows for up to 12 months of overseas research if essential for degree completion. The scholarship is subject to annual progress evaluation and adherence to the University's research and conduct policies.
