About This Opportunity

The JJ Kelly Memorial Scholarship is a merit or equity scholarship established in 2023 to support students undertaking studies in brass instrument at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music at the University of Sydney. The scholarship is funded by a donation from Kathleen Ralston Kelly and aims to assist both coursework and research students pursuing their studies in brass instruments. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic merit, personal statement, demonstrated evidence of disadvantage, and/or portfolio and performance. For postgraduate research applicants, research achievements and potential may also be considered. The scholarship value and duration are determined by the Head of School and Dean of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. For coursework students, payments are made in two equal instalments after the census date of each semester. For postgraduate research students, the scholarship is paid as a stipend on a fortnightly basis. Recipients must maintain satisfactory academic performance, with coursework students required to maintain a minimum weighted average mark (WAM) of 65 each semester. This scholarship provides valuable financial support to talented students studying brass instruments, enabling them to focus on their musical development and academic pursuits at one of Australia's leading music conservatories.
