About this opportunity
The Joan K. Hunt and Rachel M. Hunt Summer Scholarship in Field Botany promotes the importance of botany to horticulture by encouraging young students to study field botany in the United States. The scholarship offers undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in the field beyond their regular course of study. The scholarship provides $3,500 annually to one student for summer study in the field, which may be for credit or beyond regular coursework. Students choose their specific course of study and location, with suggested studies including assisting a botanist with field studies or plant inventories, plant monitoring in national forests, or internships on special projects in botanical gardens. Established in memory of Joan K. Hunt and Rachel M. Hunt, both beloved members of the Garden Club of Allegheny County and outstanding contributors to the Garden Club of America, this scholarship was fully funded in January 2003 and first awarded that March.
