About this opportunity
The John Busteed Memorial Prize in Economics honors Professor John Busteed, who served as Professor of Economics and Dean of the Faculty of Commerce at University College Cork from 1924 until his death in 1964. Professor Busteed was known as an inspiring teacher and enthusiastic supporter of the Adult Education Movement, serving on several Government Commissions and chairing the Joint Unity Committee that unified Ireland's trade union movement.
Many of Professor Busteed's friends established a memorial fund to perpetuate his legacy. This fund was initially used to organize an annual Busteed Memorial Lecture and is now used to award a series of annual prizes to students of Economics at UCC.
The prize is awarded to the student who achieves the highest average mark in Economic modules across different years and programs, including Arts I, II & III, Commerce I, II, III & IV, and BA (Economics Through Transformational Learning) I, II, III & IV. Recipients receive a monetary award of up to €100 per student and a parchment certificate.
