About This Opportunity

The John Kelly Prize in Clinical Surgery is an annual prize funded by friends, past students and admirers of John Kelly, MB, FRCS, a former Lecturer in Surgery in University College Cork. The prize is awarded to the candidate who has obtained the highest marks in Clinical Surgery at the Final Medical Examination. The award is determined by the Extern Examiner in Surgery and is subject to specific eligibility criteria. Recipients must have been students at University College Cork for the three years immediately preceding the examination, must have achieved a sufficiently high standard as determined by the Academic Council, and must have taken the whole of the Final Medical Examination for the first time. The prize recognizes outstanding academic achievement in clinical surgery among medical students at UCC. The award is funded from endowments with annual values subject to investment market fluctuations.

Restrictions

  • Must be current UCC student for three years immediately preceding examination
  • Must take whole Final Medical Examination for first time
  • Must not have passed Third University Examination in Medicine more than three years before Final Medical Examination (with exceptions for BSc or approved non-medical studies)
  • Must achieve sufficiently high standard as determined by Academic Council
