About This Opportunity

The Legion National Foundation Masters Scholarship is an annual entrance scholarship designed to support master's level students specializing in research related to Veterans and their families. The scholarship is offered through a partnership between the Canadian Institute for Military and Veteran Health Research (CIMVHR) and The Legion National Foundation, with the goal of training a future generation of researchers focused on military and veteran health. The award supports research addressing the unique context of military service over the life course and aims to improve the physical and mental health or well-being of Veteran populations and their families. The scholarship provides $15,000 annually for two years to support full-time master's students at Canadian universities. Recipients are expected to demonstrate high-quality research methodology, excellent analytical and writing skills, and potential for high-impact research. Knowledge translation and exchange is strongly encouraged, including publishing research results in peer-reviewed journals. Successful candidates are expected to collaborate with other CIMVHR researchers on at least one publication related to their research area. The program encourages scholars to adopt Sex and Gender Equity in Research (SAGER) principles and use an intersectional lens in their methodologies. This scholarship creates vital links between emerging researchers and CIMVHR's established network of University Investigators and Government partners to ensure research can be rapidly translated into practice, policies, and programs affecting those who have served and their families.
