About this opportunity

The Lesley Charles Hunter English Scholarship provides financial support to undergraduate students studying English at the University of Sydney who are experiencing financial hardship. Valued at up to $10,000 per annum for one year, this scholarship is funded from the estate of the late Barbara Jean Hunter. The scholarship is specifically designed to support commencing students undertaking English as a major as part of the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Arts (Advanced Studies). Recipients must demonstrate financial hardship based on one or more criteria including Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander status, low socio-economic status, carer responsibilities, long-term medical condition/disability, sole-parent responsibilities, regional and/or remote disadvantage, refugee status, LGBTIQ+ identity, or being first in family. Applicants must provide a personal statement demonstrating why they are studying English, their commitment to studying English, and the impact their financial hardship has on their studies.
