About this opportunity
The Long-Twyford Family Scholarship was established to honor the memory and values of the Long and Twyford families. Bob and Geraldine were incredible role models from their early beginnings in West Virginia to their final days in Columbus, Ohio. Geri's passion for learning continued as a graduate of Denison University to a successful teaching career with Bexley schools. A WWII Navy veteran, Bob passed away in 2011 and Geri in 2016 after celebrating her 90th birthday surrounded by family, friends, and former students from her fifth grade classes.
This scholarship supports graduating seniors or graduates of Tyler Consolidated High School in Tyler County, West Virginia who are pursuing a college education in the field of education. The award is designed to provide escalating support throughout a student's four-year undergraduate degree program, starting at $4,000 in the first year and increasing to $7,000 by the fourth year. Two scholarships totaling $22,000 each are available annually.
Candidates must demonstrate academic excellence with a minimum 3.0 GPA or be ranked in the top 25% of their class, and must demonstrate financial need. Recipients must attend an accredited West Virginia state-supported two- or four-year college or university full-time and major in education with plans to pursue an education degree.
