About this opportunity
The Mary Elmes Postgraduate Scholarship in German Studies is offered by the Department of German at University College Cork for PhD research on a topic in any area in the field of modern German Studies, with an emphasis on intercultural and/or transcultural aspects, broadly defined. Research expertise in the department includes various areas of German literature and culture, with co-supervision across disciplines welcomed. The scholarship covers fees plus an annual stipend of €11,000. The scheme requires the scholarship holder to undertake the equivalent of 120 tutorial hours (language and literature) per annum. The scholarship is normally renewable each year for a period of two years, subject to the scholarship holder having submitted high quality research proposals to external funding bodies and receiving satisfactory annual progress reports. Our doctoral students are supported in their graduate education, research training and career development by the Graduate School of the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences.
