About This Opportunity

The Michael P. Mortell Scholarship in Applied Mathematics is awarded annually to outstanding students at University College Cork who demonstrate exceptional performance in Applied Mathematics during their First Year examinations. The scholarship is available to students pursuing either a Science or Arts degree who achieve at least 70% of marks in First Year Applied Mathematics modules and would be eligible for a University Scholarship based on their examination results. Recipients must use the scholarship to pursue a BSc (Hons) Degree at UCC with Applied Mathematics as one of their subjects, taking at least 25 credits in Second Year and at least 30 credits in subsequent years. The scholarship provides €1,000 per annum and is normally tenable throughout the student's undergraduate years. It is paid in equal amounts at the end of each semester. Students who are also in receipt of Higher Education Grants or similar awards may not receive the full value if other award rules restrict total support amounts. The scholarship may be withdrawn if attendance, progress, or conduct is deemed unsatisfactory by the Scholarship Board, which consists of the Head of Department of Applied Mathematics and two elected permanent staff members.
