About this opportunity

The Mitchell Zuñiga Scholarship provides college assistance to a graduating high school senior who played football for Coral Gables Senior High School. The scholarship was founded by Martha C. Méndez Mishael in memory of her son Mitchell, who was born in Red Bank, New Jersey, and raised in Miami. Football was his great passion during his high school years at Coral Gables Senior High School, where he played on the offensive line for 4 years. Mitchell was known for his caring nature and his ability to make everyone feel special. He volunteered at Habitat for Humanity for several years before attending Santa Fe College and later graduating from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor's Degree in Hospitality Management. Mitchell's Foundation is intended to keep his memory alive by providing students the opportunity to excel in education while participating in football. The scholarship is open to any field of study and requires applicants to be football players graduating from Coral Gables Senior High School with an overall unweighted GPA of 2.8 or higher. Applicants must submit a summary of community service and activities, a letter of recommendation (preferably from a coach), and an essay describing what playing football for Gables High School has meant to them.
