About This Opportunity

The Pamela Dorothy Nash Biomedical PhD Supplementary Scholarship is a postgraduate research scholarship for PhD students within the Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney to undertake research in the fields of microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology or cell biology, with a focus on research aimed at contributing to the advancement of human health. This scholarship is funded by Firethorn Foundation in memory of the late Pamela Dorothy Nash, who graduated from the University of Sydney in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science focused on microbiology and biochemistry. The scholarship provides a stipend allowance of $17,000 per annum for up to 3.5 years, subject to satisfactory academic performance. Science domestic PhD students applying for the University of Sydney's Research Training Program (RTP) stipend scholarships will automatically be considered for this scholarship, with no separate application required. Recipients must be Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens, or Australian permanent residents who are currently receiving an Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) stipend scholarship. The scholarship honors Pamela Dorothy Nash, who had a distinguished career in virology research, working with Professor Yvonne Cossard at the University of Sydney on research related to Ross River Fever at the Australian National University and with Professor Christopher Burrell at the University of Adelaide. The Firethorn Foundation established this scholarship as part of its mission to invest in education as a catalyst for opportunity, leadership, and lasting change. Selection is based on academic merit, area of study and research proposal, and previous research experience including relevant professional experience, scholarly publications and other relevant research output. The scholarship cannot be held concurrently with other supplementary scholarships and requires recipients to acknowledge the Firethorn Foundation in any publications arising from their research.
