The Placement Bursary

The Placement Bursary is a financial support scheme offered by the University of Bath to undergraduate students who are already in receipt of the Bath Bursary, Gold Scholarship, Cowrie Foundation Scholarship, or Discretionary Student Support Fund. The bursary provides additional funding for students undertaking unpaid placement periods or study abroad as part of their degree program. Awards range from £1,000 to £2,000 depending on the type and duration of the placement. The scheme recognizes that students on unpaid placements face financial challenges while still pursuing integral components of their academic programs. The bursary is paid as a single instalment in December alongside other University funding. There is no separate application process as awards are automatically made based on existing records, though students must ensure their placement details are correctly coded by their department. The bursary aims to support students during placement years when they typically have reduced income but continue to incur living expenses while gaining valuable work experience or studying abroad.
