About this opportunity
This scheme aims to support scientific excellence and innovative research that will lead to quicker, earlier diagnosis to save and improve lives, and new and better treatments that pave the way for cures. Under the scheme, applicants can apply for either a project grant or a PhD studentship. Most projects are expected to last 3 to 4 years, though shorter or longer projects will be considered with full justification. PhD awards can be for 3 or 4-year full time studentships, or the part time equivalent. The scheme supports intervention development, pilot studies to generate preliminary data or test feasibility of larger projects, and non-salary costs to support researchers whose salary is supported elsewhere. The funding available for projects can vary with no specified cap, though projects costing more than £400,000 require early contact with the research team. For PhD studentships, the total amount requested must not exceed £171,500. Funds will cover staff salary, research expenses and essential equipment.
