About this opportunity
The Professor Mike Walker OBE Scholarship provides a tuition fee reduction of up to £12,000 for selected Masters degrees within Computer Science and Information Security at Royal Holloway, University of London. One scholarship is available annually to a full-time or part-time student with Home or International fee status. The scholarship was established in memory of Professor Mike Walker OBE, a distinguished figure synonymous with the Information Security Group (ISG) at Royal Holloway. Professor Walker joined Royal Holloway in 1966, completed his BSc in Mathematics, and became the second PhD student supervised by Professor Fred Piper, founder of the ISG. Throughout his career in industry, Professor Walker maintained his academic research involvement and held the Vodafone chair as Professor of Telecommunications. In 2002, he was instrumental in founding the ISG Smart Card Centre. This scholarship is awarded as a tuition fee reduction, and if the course fee is less than £12,000, only the fee will be covered with no additional cash award. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and be unable to undertake further study without the financial support of the scholarship.
