About this opportunity
The Sanctuary Scholarship is offered by the University of Greenwich to support asylum seekers and refugees in the United Kingdom who wish to pursue higher education but are unable to access traditional student finance. For 2026/27, two scholarships will be awarded to offer holders seeking asylum or with refugee status who are not eligible for financial support. The scholarship provides comprehensive support including a full tuition fee waiver, accommodation fee waiver for either Avery Hill or Greenwich Campus, and a maintenance grant of £10,000 paid in three instalments throughout the year.
This scholarship is available for both undergraduate and postgraduate taught courses (excluding PhD and postgraduate research programmes). Applicants must be studying at one of the University's campuses: Greenwich, Avery Hill, or Medway (except Medway School of Pharmacy). The scholarship is specifically designed for individuals who hold UK asylum seeker status, UK discretionary leave to remain, or UK limited leave to remain as a result of an asylum application, or are dependants of someone with these statuses.
The scholarship continues until the recipient is awarded an immigration status that allows access to student finance, at which point the scholarship ends in subsequent academic years. Applications must be submitted online with documentary evidence verifying circumstances, and shortlisted applicants will be required to attend an online interview.
