About this opportunity

The Sir Jules Thorn Award provides a grant of up to £1.7 million to support a five-year programme of translational biomedical research. Established for over 20 years, the Award supports world-leading translational research projects selected through a competitive process among applicants sponsored by UK medical schools and NHS organisations. Applications may address any discipline or disease area, but the research must be clearly at the forefront of international science and led by an outstanding Principal Applicant in the early stages of an established research and academic career. The Award follows a rigorous three-stage application process including preliminary applications, full applications for longlisted candidates, and presentations/interviews for shortlisted applicants. The research must include patients, be conducted within the United Kingdom, and demonstrate a clear strategy for translating findings into patient benefits. The Principal Applicant must commit at least 50% of their overall time to the Award and be in an institutionally-funded post, as the Award cannot cover the Principal Applicant's salary.
