About This Opportunity

The Wentworth Fellowship provides financial assistance to postgraduate research students at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Sydney. This scholarship supports PhD, Doctor of Arts (DArts), or Doctor of Social Sciences (DSocSci) students conducting research in humanities or social sciences. The fellowship specifically supports students who need to travel to England and Europe as part of their research. Established in 2020, the scholarship is funded by a donation made in 1862 by William C. Wentworth, an Australian explorer, journalist, politician and author, and one of the leading figures of early colonial New South Wales. Wentworth proposed the idea of Australia's first university in 1850 and helped to endow the University of Sydney. Recipients must be over 25 years old, hold an honours degree (first class or second class upper) or equivalent in a relevant Arts discipline, and commit to presenting a report to the Senate upon return describing their tour, research outcome and including remarks on objects of literary and scientific interest.
