The Women of St Hild's Scholarship
About This Opportunity
The College of St Hild & St Bede is delighted to offer one UK (home) undergraduate who will begin their studies in the academic year 2025/26, a scholarship of £5,000 per year for the duration of their degree (up to four years). The applicant must be from a household with an income of £47,200 or less. We will also preference students from the North East of England. St Hild's College was a Teacher Training College for women founded in 1858. It sought to progress the education of women to be teachers and through its members provided education to thousands of children throughout the Northeast of England and far beyond. In 1975 St Hild's College merged with the College of the Venerable Bede, and then the College of St Hild & St Bede joined Durham University in 1979. Our College has its roots and still takes pride and derives its ethos from this commitment to education. We believe in education as a force for social good and for change. We believe that those who benefit from education should feel invested in and equipped to share their knowledge and skills with others throughout their lives. The women of St Hild have created a fund which is intended to ensure the tradition of offering education to those for whom financial support will be transformative and who, in turn, can go on to be forces for good in the world. This scholarship is open to a student in any subject. They will become a member of the College of St Hild & St Bede in order to accept it. In order to apply you will need to demonstrate household income and for that to be below £47,200 per year. The College will preference applicants from the North-East of England in recognition of the origins of the College.
