About This Opportunity

The Thomas and Ethel Mary Ewing Scholarships (Travelling Research) is a travel scholarship for postgraduate research students at the University of Sydney's Sydney School of Education and Social Work. Valued up to $20,000, this scholarship supports master's by research and PhD students who need to undertake travel overseas, interstate, or outside Sydney as part of their degree research. The scholarship was established in 1964 from a bequest from Dr Thomas Ewing to establish and maintain one or more travelling research scholarships. Applicants must be currently enrolled full-time in a master's by research or PhD program within the Sydney School of Education and Social Work, conducting research in the field of education. Recipients must be graduates or graduands of the Sydney School of Education and Social Work and must demonstrate a clear need for travel as part of their research. Travel must commence by 31 December in the year of application. The scholarship is awarded based on academic merit, research proposal quality, curriculum vitae, detailed budget and itinerary, supervisor reference letter, and a personal statement demonstrating the need for travel and its importance to the research. The exact scholarship value is determined by the selection committee and paid as a one-off payment. Recipients are required to maintain receipts for all costs incurred for up to one year after receiving the scholarship.
