About this opportunity

This grant program supports work to reduce nitrogen emissions from municipal wastewater treatment plants within the Oslo Fjord watershed. To improve conditions in the Oslo Fjord, there is a need to reduce nitrogen inputs as quickly as possible. The Norwegian Parliament has allocated funds for this grant scheme to reduce nitrogen emissions from municipal wastewater to the Oslo Fjord. The grant can support planning and/or engineering of nitrogen removal at wastewater treatment plants, evaluation of suitable technology for nitrogen removal (both temporary and permanent solutions), and competence development measures related to nitrogen removal. The Norwegian Environment Agency (Miljødirektoratet) is offering 71.4 million NOK in 2026, subject to financing through the state budget. Applications that appear realistic in implementation plan and budget are prioritized in competition with other applications, with preference given to projects that contribute to the fastest possible improvement of environmental conditions in the Oslo Fjord through nitrogen removal and projects that ensure knowledge and experience benefit multiple municipalities.
